up, down and that is the way you are supposed to code?

For this week’s blog post I went to Code.org  and tried my hand at coding.  Let’s just say it got a little interesting.

First and foremost,  I want to begin by saying I am not a tech savy person.  There is a reason I took this class and It wasn’t because I thought it would be an easy mark.  It is because I knew I needed to be schooled. Up until this point in the semester, I felt as though I was making great progress, really working towards my technological dreams.  This was until  I was faced with my match.  Coding.

Things started off great, I scanned through the different things I could do and quickly settled on a great looking Frozen game.  Frozen+ Figure Skating.  Sold.  I clicked the link and watched the opening video.  I practised my first ‘code’, I thought this is going great.  Screen Shot 2018-04-07 at 7.45.46 PM.png

It was going great, each code I was creating a new great snowflake Screen Shot 2018-04-07 at 7.48.13 PM.png

It was all going good until they asked me to make a 10 point snowflake..Screen Shot 2018-04-07 at 7.54.04 PM.png

I tried, and I tried again.. I tried all my coding knowledge, and it had me stumped.

I think coding is very important to teach in future classrooms because I think coding will be very important in the future.  As our society progresses, the importantance for and of technology.  Coding is a type of literacy that is vital to success in the future.  I think coding is something that many teachers (myself) included will need professional development in order to make a reality in our classrooms.
